Liverpool now interested in signing £85m Brazil international who Zinedine Zidane loves

After Richard Hughes’ arrival as new sporting director, it’s time for Liverpool to really ramp up their recruitment.

In the immediate future, that means identifying and securing the successor to Jurgen Klopp. With Hughes the man tasked with that most important of jobs, he’s facing a baptism of fire.

But beyond the obvious need for a new manager, Liverpool will likely make one or two additions to the playing squad this summer, too.

As a result, links have already long since started to appear in the press. For the time being, a new forward seems to be near the top of the requirements, with Donyell Malen one of those said to be on the radar.

Liverpool eyeing summer additions

As well as Malen, other names are beginning to circulate as being of interest to Liverpool.

And according to Spanish outlet SPORT, Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes is – surprisingly – one of those being eyed up. With Madrid set to sign Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo will reportedly have a more reduced role at the Bernabeu.

As a result, this has reportedly led to Liverpool ‘keeping a close eye’ on his situation. They’re seemingly not alone in that though, with Manchester’s United and City as well as Arsenal all doing the same.

It seems that the Premier League giants will all come up empty handed, however. Getting Rodrygo out of Madrid is claimed to be ‘mission impossible’ unless the Brazilian himself asks to leave. Despite his reduced status, the £85m-rated forward is reportedly not planning to go anytime soon.

Why do Liverpool want Rodrygo

If there’s any chance at all that Rodrygo is on the market this summer, then you could understand why Liverpool would be keen on him.

On the face of it, the Reds don’t really need another forward. But with question marks over the futures of Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz, there could be room for another addition.

The case of Diaz in particular is interesting. PSG are said to have ‘real’ interest in the Colombian and Rodrygo could be a natural replacement.

Skilful, capable of scoring goals and versatile across the front-line, the Brazil international would be a tremendous acquistion.

When the likes of Zinedine Zidane have been left in awe of your quality [The Daily Mail], then you must have something special.

Obviously, signing Rodrygo this summer seems like a near impossibility right now. But you never know with these things. If Mbappe does arrive as expected, then there isn’t room for everyone. It’s well worth Liverpool asking the question.
