Report: West Ham could exploit club's PSR woes by signing 24-yo star man to replace Paqueta

West Ham United could look to replace Lucas Paqueta with an incredibly exciting Premier League star this summer.

All the talk is that Lucas Paqueta could leave West Ham to join Manchester City in the summer, with the Brazilian’s heart apparently set on a move to the Etihad.

As much as the 26-year-old Hammers star isn’t pushing for the move – his press conference yesterday proved that, it would be no surprise at all to see him join Man City at some point within the next few months.

It will be sad to see Paqueta leave the London Stadium, but the most important thing will be for David Moyes to bring in a sufficient replacement.

That will obviously be easier said than done, given Paqueta’s quality. However, there are plenty of options out there, one of which West Ham are said to be exploring already…

West Ham could replace Lucas Paqueta with PL star

Moyes apparently has a very special player lined up to replace Paqueta, if the former Lyon man does indeed leave to join Manchester City this summer.

According to talkSPORT, the Hammers could look to take advantage of Forest’s issue with PSR by signing Morgan Gibbs-White in the summer transfer window.

The East Midlands outfit have already been docked four points after falling foul of the new profit and sustainability rules, and there could be further punishment on the way for them.

West Ham’s own PSR fears have been eased after we pocketed a £13 million bonus from our exploits in the Europa League this season.

And our gain could be Forest’s loss, if we move in for Gibbs-White.

Since joining Nottingham Forest from Wolves for £42 million in the summer of 2022 (Sky Sports), the 24-year-old has proven to be a huge hit at the City Ground.

The former Wolves ace has bagged four goals and five assists in 33 games in all competitions for Forest so far this season (Transfermarkt). He has created 10 big chances for his teammates this term (Premier League website) – the third most out of anyone playing for clubs outside of the top eight.

Gibbs-White can play as a number 10, in an orthodox central midfield role, or on either wing. The former Wolves man has pace, energy, dynamism and athleticism in abundance.

The Forest star is a good finisher, a really imaginative creator and he has a penchant for showing off his magical ability when it matters the most.

Sure, he’s not on the same level as Lucas Paqueta when it comes to skill and technical ability, but if he does replace the Brazilian at West Ham, I think it would be a good move from Moyes and co.
