German Football Federation (DFB) president Bernd Neuendorf has not ruled out renewing the contract of national team coach Julian Nagelsmann before this summer's European championships.

Former Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich coach Nagelsman was appointed in autumn on a short term contract until the end of the Euros which Germany hosts.

He said this week that he would like clarity before the tournament, either by returning to club football or by renewing with the DFB, because he doesn't want a break in his career.

Neuendorf said on Thursday that "we certainly won't turn our backs on such a wish" and that he would welcome Nagelsmann staying on.

"He fully identifies with his job and with the federation and shows great passion," Neuendorf said, adding that they had "got to know and appreciate the coach and the person Julian Nagelsmann at the DFB in a relatively short time."

Kicker sports magazine reported earlier Thursday that the DFB wanted to renew with Nagelsmann if the team played a good Euros, quoting DFB managing director Andreas Rettig as saying that "you don't send away successful coaches."

Nagelsmann was dismissed in Munich 12 months ago. He has said he has no offer so far but he has reportedly been linked with a return to Bayern in summer when his successor Thomas Tuchel departs.
