'I'm sorry, I can't help you': Biden mocks Trump's scrambling to find $454M

During a speech at a fundraiser in Dallas, President Joe Biden took a shot at Donald Trump's legal headaches — specifically the difficulty he's having obtaining the bond to allow him to appeal a civil judgment amounting to $454 million.

Trump must pay the full bond amount to delay collection while he appeals the a $355 million judgment against him after a judge determined he participated in business and tax fraud by overvaluing his assets to receive more favorable bank loans. After interest, the amount of the damages has already risen to $464 million.

Trump's legal team this week said raising the bond amount will be "practically impossible" after several companies refused to underwrite the bond amount.

During his speech, Biden jokingly said that Trump had reached out to him for financial help, Newsweek reported.

"Just the other day, this defeated-looking man came up to me and said: 'Mr. President I need your help. I'm in crushing debt. I'm completely wiped out," Biden said, adding that he then responded, "Donald, I'm sorry. I can't help you."

The audience then broke into laughter, according to reports.

Biden also took a few jabs at Texas GOP Senator Ted Cruz, saying that if Cruz loses his state's Senate election, he "joins another loser, Donald Trump."

As Newsweek points out, Biden also cracked jokes about his own age, which has become a contentious issue throughout the 2024 race.

"I'm 41" he said before comparing himself with Trump, adding, "It's about the age of our ideals."

Biden blamed Trump for the current migrant crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border, saying, "Trump didn't just bring chaos to Americans. He also brought chaos to the American border."

According to Newsweek, Biden raised over $2.5 million for his re-election campaign on Wednesday alone.
