Report: 31-year-old Rangers star is set to leave Ibrox

Reports coming out of Croatia have backed up the suggestion that Rangers left-back Borna Barisic is close to an agreement with Trabzonspor.

There has been a heavy suggestion over the last week or so that the Turkish Super Lig champions are looking to sign the Croatian international at the end of his contract.

These claims intensified when it was suggested Borna Barisic’s representation would be at this week’s TransferRoom Summit in Italy trying to broker a deal.

Now, all the signs are suggesting a move to Turkey is edging closer for the Rangers left-back who might have some unfinished business at the club between now and the end of the season.

Borna Barisic to Trabzonspor

Whilst reports in Turkey suggested that a deal had been arranged, these fresh reports in the Croatian media appear to echo those claims.

Germanijak are reporting that a deal is close with personal terms agreed but nothing signed as things stand.

If Borna Barisic is to move to Trabzonspor, it represents the end of an era at Ibrox where the former NK Osijek captain has been a mainstay since 2018.

Having suffered up-and-down form over his six years in Glasgow, Borna Barisic remains a popular figure amongst the Ibrox fans and the club’s support recognise the 31-year-old’s contribution.

Having given his best years to the club, if Borna Barisic is to move this summer you can expect a solid send off from the Rangers legions.

Rangers summer overhaul imminent?

The transfer also brings into sharp focus the situation with the Rangers squad heading into the summer.

No fewer than six of the club’s top first-teamers are out of contract, with high earners like Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe, John Lundstram, and Borna Barisic all in that number.

Throw into the mix reports that James Tavernier is a legitimate target for Saudi Arabian clubs and suddenly there could be big changes in the offing at Ibrox this summer.

As for the left-back slot, Turkish international Ridvan Yilmaz has excelled in the position in recent weeks whilst the conversation around a January Brazilian target persists.
