81.3% - Man City's most accurate shooter this season is probably not who you might expect

Manchester City have quite a few players who know where the goal is – but the player who actually has the highest shooting accuracy this season may come as a surprise to some.

City are known for being a team that score a lot of goals.

Pep Guardiola‘s side are ruthless when it comes to carving teams open and finding the back of the net.

Erling Haaland is City’s main source of goals these days, having plundered 81 in 87 games since joining from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022.

The Norwegian number nine is absolutely lethal, and has been breaking all kinds of records.

Despite all this, he has not been the most accurate shooter at City this season.

That honour, actually goes to none other than Jack Grealish

It has been a pretty frustrating season so far for Jack Grealish, who has spent quite a bit of time on the treatment table.

The 28-year-old has only been able to make 27 appearances across all competitions so far, which will be a big frustration considering what an important player he was en route to the Treble last season.

Indeed, the disappointment on his face after he sustained a recurrence of an injury against Luton Town in the FA Cup was very clear.

But Grealish can at least take some heart from the fact that he is statistically City’s most accurate shooter so far this season. In terms of just getting his shots on target, of course.

City have released some statistics via their official website, and he sits top in the category of shooting accuracy. He has an impressive percentage of 81.3% so far. John Stones (75%), Phil Foden (67.1%), Julian Alvarez (62%) and Haaland (61.2%) make up the rest of the top five.

Grealish shoots accurately, but not clinically

It is very interesting to see Grealish’s name at the top of this list.

He is probably not someone most people would have guessed to have the highest shooting accuracy.

Of course, it was never going to be Haaland purely because of how many chances are created for him. Since he gets more chances, it’s naturally going to mean more misses and therefore result in a lower shooting accuracy.

Grealish is not really known for his shooting accuracy, so it’s nice to see him having the highest accuracy.

That said, he has only actually scored three goals this season for City, and that return is nothing to shout home about.

Grealish does well to get his efforts on target. But with him, it is clearly now about him becoming a bit more clinical. Guardiola has challenged him to score more goals, and hopefully, once he’s back fit again he can start finding the net more often.
