A woman wondered whether she could heal her “daddy issues” by hiring an old man in Japan to fill in on the role.

Don’t have a dad, try hiring an old man

TikTok user Tyen (@tyenrasif) posted a video earlier this week following a recent trip to Tokyo, Japan. While there, she decided to fill the father-shaped hole in her heart by renting another old man.

Tyen used the Ossan Rental service for her needs, which also allows customers to rent boyfriends, girlfriends, and even entire families. Tyen’s old man, who goes by the username “An old man who has lived overseas for a long time”, cost 1,000 Japanese Yen or around $6.

On their day out, they enjoyed the sights at Asakusa Sensoji Temple before grabbing a Matcha. Tyen even said he offered her amazing life advice.

Though Tyen acknowledged that the practice might “raise eyebrows”, she fought the corner of the business by outlining how Japan is one of the loneliest countries in the world. Such services act as a way of bringing people together.

“It was comforting known I would always have a dad in Japan that I would hopefully see again,” she said at the end of the video.

Renting a dad was a hit with her followers

Tyen’s fellow social media users were shocked that renting a person was even possible while others suggested other services they could provide.

One person wrote: “Is this cheaper than getting a tour guide? 😂😂 it’s giving me an idea.”

“is this cheaper than getting a tour guide? 😂😂 it’s giving me an idea,” someone else said, while a third added, “Sending this to my dad now to show him how easily he can be replaced.”
