Person fatally struck by NJ Transit train in Monmouth County

A person was fatally struck by an NJ Transit train Thursday afternoon in Monmouth County, officials said.

The person, identified only as an adult man, was hit near the Hazlet Station near Holmdel Road at 3:52 p.m. by a North Jersey Coast Line train, an NJ Transit spokesperson said.

The train did not have any passengers on it at the time.

North Jersey Coast Line service continued to operate with delays to select trains in the area, the spokesperson said.

No other information was released Thursday night and incident is still under investigation by the NJ Transit Police.
