If you’re crushing on a coworker then you might be suffering from ‘office goggles’

If you head into work on a Monday feeling giddy at the thought of seeing that special co-worker, you’re not in love, you just have office goggles.

The concept of beer goggles is a somewhat tired trope that suggests you only fancy someone because you are four drinks down. This new concept builds off that, going as far as to argue the office has the same effect as alcohol.

What are office goggles?

Earlier this week, relationship expert Molly posted a video on TikTok that outlined an original concept by the name of office goggles. It seems the message is needed as well, as 60% of adults have had a workplace romance.

“One person in the office who you would never look twice at had you met them under normal circumstances, but for some reason, being in the office, they are a sex god,” she explained. “They are everything you have ever looked for in a partner and more.”

Though Molly admitted to not knowing the exact reason behind the effect, speculating that it could be something to do with the lighting, she did say that office goggles are a phenomenon most have experienced at some point.

She continued: “Next time you go for drinks on a Thursday night, a couple of glasses of cheap Sauvignon Blanc down. I beg you, I implore you to just take 30 seconds, step back, and think to yourself, ‘If I saw him on the street, would I actually like him?.’

“I promise you. It feels like a sexy fling at the time, but it is not worth the anxiety.”

Many of Molly’s followers shared their thoughts in the comments, with most admitting to being partial to a workplace romance.

One person confessed: “No one falls in love quicker than 2 married work colleagues.”

“I met my partner at work, been together 21 years and I can tell you, it was office goggles,” a second said, as a third added, “In the 90s I had work goggles and beer goggles on at the same time for way too long. It was a big company.”
