'Good news for Gary O'Neil': Wolves set to be handed summer transfer boost from unlikely source

Wolves could be set to receive a boost in their upcoming summer transfer window thanks to a clever clause from a former sale.

Wolves are set for a big summer window. With the season soon coming to an end, it is safe to say Gary O’Neil’s first campaign has been a successful one.

Many first-team players have stepped up including, Pedro Neto, Joao Gomes and Rayan Ait-Nouri. O’Neil will no doubt want to build on this with a striker and defender two areas Wolves want to strengthen in.

To do this, the club may have to sell one of its stars with Joao Gomes being linked to Man United in recent weeks.

However, the Molineux side could be set to receive a nice cash boost this summer which will no doubt help them acquire their targets.

Former academy graduate Morgan Gibbs-White left Wolves back in 2022 for Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest. It was seemingly a good deal for both sides with Wolves reportedly receiving £25 million for the midfielder had never been regular.

However, this was one of many deals Forest completed that summer which has now led the side to being docked four points by the Premier League.

Now, the club is determined to adopt a tough stance with their star players, including Gibbs-White who Forest value at £50 million+.

If this deal was to go through in the summer and Gibbs-White did depart from Forest, it would be good news for Wolves.

The club inserted a 15% sell-on clause in the deal according to journalist Ryan Leister. This is for profit only meaning Wolves will receive 15% of Forest’s profit from the sale.

Despite multiple sales throughout recent years, Wolves continue to get the best possible deal for the club.

A potential Gibbs-White sale would only bring more money into the club and help bring in more potential targets to improve the team.

This strategy was used at the beginning of this season. Matheus Nunes left Wolves for a record fee with Tommy Doyle coming the other way. That money was then also used to buy Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Santiago Bueno.

If Wolves want to get back into Europe on a consistent basis, they must be smart in the transfer market in order to compete with the bigger clubs.

Sales such as the departure of Gibbs-White are exactly what Wolves should be looking to do. Then, in the future, they can then profit further.
