'Pick of the bunch': Nation's media praise 26-year-old still on Tottenham books, gets 8/10 for midweek display

A brilliant night for Wales saw Rob Page’s side dismantle Finland to set up a clash against Poland in the Euro 2024 play-offs – with Joe Rodon, Brennan Johnson and Ben Davies all starring for Wales.

The Tottenham trio all played important roles in Wales’ 4-1 win over Finland at The Cardiff City Stadium. Indeed, Johnson scored Wales’ third of four goals – while Davies had a goal bizarrely ruled out by VAR.

The dream of Euro 2024 is still very much alive for Wales, as they take on Poland on Tuesday – with Robert Lewandowski’s side smashing Estonia to win 5-1 in the other Euro 2024 play-off semi-final.

Rodon, 26, was excellent in the middle of the Wales defence even if there was a bit of a mix-up for Teemu Pukki’s 40th Finland goal. The centre-back is thriving, out on loan at Leeds United this season.

Welsh media rave about Tottenham loanee Joe Rodon, gets 8/10

Indeed, Rodon is back to his best after three difficult years. Just 24 outings for Spurs in two years saw him go on loan to Rennes last year – where he was largely indifferent, unable to show his best form.

But at Elland Road, under Daniel Farke, Rodon has been excellent. Alasdair Gold says Tottenham will look to sell Rodon, while Farke himself has suggested that Leeds will look to sign Rodon permanently.

His form in a Wales shirt has never been questioned, though. On Thursday night, Wales Online gave him a rating of 8/10 and say he was the pick of the defenders that boss Rob Page started in a back three.

“Steady as you like from a dependable operator. Probably the pick of the bunch out of the three central defenders at the back,” Wales Online reported on Rodon’s performance, after handing him 8 out of 10.

How much will Leeds need to pay to sign Tottenham star Rodon?

Well, firstly, the chances are that Leeds will need promotion to obtain Rodon beyond his loan. As things stand, they look good for promotion – sitting at the top of the Championship table, on goal difference.

Reports do state that Leeds will only need to pay a fee between £10m and £15m – with Rodon even saying he would love to play for Leeds in the Premier League. He wants a permanent move to Leeds.

It looks nailed on that Leeds will make a move for Rodon – especially, with Ange Postecoglou recently saying that centre-back is an area that Spurs will address in the summer. He has no future at Tottenham.
