Harry Redknapp says player who left Manchester United for free was even better than Ronaldinho

Harry Redknapp has claimed that he would pick a former Manchester United player over Ronaldinho, Eric Cantona and Luis Figo.

The Red Devils are the biggest club in England and perhaps even the world. They have a hugely successful history and Old Trafford has been home to some of the greatest players we have ever seen.

When Sir Alex Ferguson was at the helm, Manchester United were the team to beat.

They were the strongest side in the country more often than not, and Harry Redknapp was on the receiving end of defeats on multiple occasions back then.

Harry Redknapp picks former Manchester United star over Ronaldinho

Harry Redknapp managed various teams and faced Manchester United on 46 occasions, but unfortunately for him, he only won five times.

That’s understandable as the now-77-year-old always came up against very strong United sides.

One player who was absolutely unbelievable for Manchester United for over a decade was Wayne Rooney. The Englishman is one of the best players to ever play for the club.

In 559 games for the Red Devils before he left them on a free transfer in 2017 (Daily Mail), Rooney scored 253 goals and provided 145 assists in all competitions. He helped United win 17 trophies, including five Premier League titles and also a Champions League.

Redknapp appears to be a big fan of Rooney. In a video on his Instagram, the former Tottenham boss was asked to pick between Luis Figo and the Manchester United icon – he picked the latter.

When asked to choose between Rooney and Brazil legend Ronaldinho, Redknapp stuck with Rooney. He even picked him over Eric Cantona.

Wayne Rooney vs Ronaldinho stats and records

Wayne Rooney and Ronaldinho are among the greats of football, but the Brazilian always seems to get more credit than the Manchester United legend.

So, let’s compare their stats and records to see if Redknapp is right to pick the Manchester United legend over Ronaldinho.

Rooney played 883 senior games for club and country during his time as a player. He scored 366 goals, provided 191 assists in all competitions, and won a total of 17 trophies.

Ronaldinho, on the other hand, played 644 games for club and country over the years. He scored 230 goals, provided 195 assists and won 11 trophies, which are all inferior when compared to Rooney’s record.

However, Ronaldinho won the World Cup and Copa America with Brazil and even lifted the Ballon d’Or back in 2005.
