Bowen, 27, has received five international caps for the Three Lions before, but injury forced him to leave the last England squad back in November 2023.

Heading into the fixtures against Brazil and Belgium, the former Hull City star would have been wondering whether Southgate would be prepared to give him a proper chance to prove himself.

Paul Merson has already suggested that the West Ham star may face disappointment in the summer:

“Jarrod Bowen can play in three or four positions across the frontline. I like him, he’s a manager’s dream and gives you everything but he might just miss out of the Euros squad. He’s unlucky but Southgate has so many options. He’d have been sweating if Sterling was ripping it up. There’s going to be some disappointed players this summer.”

With Arsenal star Bukayo Saka in front of him in the right wing pecking order, he may well have been thinking that he’d be set for limited game-time at best.

However, there has now been a very big twist over at St George’s Park…

England twist means it’s now or never for Jarrod Bowen

The Hammers attacker will be licking his lips after the latest big twist at England’s St George’s training camp.

Bowen’s form this season for West Ham has been truly sensational, and David Moyes will be absolutely delighted with his performances for us.

Jarrod has bagged 18 goals and seven assists in 37 games in all competitions for the Hammers so far this term (Transfermarkt).

The 27-year-old was fully deserving of his call-up, especially with limited options available to Southgate to provide competition for Saka in the right wing department.

And now, Bowen has a truly huge opportunity that he absolutely must grasp with both hands.

That’s because Arsenal star Saka has returned to his club from St George’s Park with an injury problem. This means that the West Ham star is now sure to feature against Brazil and Belgium.

Phil Foden can play out on the right wing, but Jarrod Bowen will surely now get at least 45 minutes in each game to prove to Southgate that he should be at the Euros this summer.

Had Saka not returned to Arsenal, there is no way that the Hammers forward would have had the chance to play as much as he now undoubtedly will do.

The Arsenal winger’s injury doesn’t seem to be a serious one, so that’s a positive for the Gunners fans. But the 22-year-old winger’s loss could very much end up being Jarrod’s gain.
