It’s been a turbulent season at Chelsea so far, where results have been inconsistent and supporters have grown increasingly frustrated.
However, there’s still a handful of Blues players that can feel relatively pleased with their progress and impact during the campaign.
The likes of Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher and Malo Gusto immediately spring to mind as Chelsea’s best performers in Mauricio Pochettino’s side. Axel Disasi has quietly had a pretty steady first year in English football, too.
Blues centre-back Disasi, who earns £80,000-a-week (Spotrac), is one of the regular faces in defence this season.
It’s interesting to hear from the player himself how he’s found the move to the Premier League.
Disasi has actually been upbeat and positive about his own individual form during this first season as a Chelsea player:
“I feel I have improved since the start of the season. With my English, my physicality, my mentality also. When I came here, I was curious how I would adapt to the Premier League and I think I have done well,” Disasi said via Chelsea’s official website.
“It takes time but that is the process, you know? The process is good and you have to keep pushing to improve again and again.
“I have enjoyed it a lot. It was something that I wanted, to play in England, so I’m very happy and very proud to play here. I think that my adaptation has been good, I have played a lot of matches, and I feel more comfortable game by game with my team-mates.”
We agree there’s definitely been signs of improvement in Disasi’s game throughout the season as he grows more familiar in his surroundings.
Axel Disasi steady without being spectacular
Unlike some of his teammates, Disasi’s had a pretty undramatic season to date, which is a good sign for a central defender.
The 26-year-old Frenchman has gone about his work quite professionally since arriving last summer. In fact, he may be the most consistent centre-half at the club right now.
We still think there’s the odd individual mistake he can cut out by being a bit less rash, but overall he gets a pass mark from us.
Speaking via FIVE’s YouTube channel in January, Anton Ferdinand compared Disasi to Kolo Toure. He was a no-nonsense defender that got on with his work efficiently and without fuss.
