This phone is likely to be rebranded as the OnePlus Nord 4

OnePlus introduces its mid-range phones under the Ace series in China, which are named differently for international markets. However, outside its homeland it’s known as the “Nord” series.

The latest addition to the Ace series, called OnePlus Ace 3V, has just been announced in China and it’s very likely that it will get a global launch as the OnePlus Nord 4. A similar situation occurred with the previous OnePlus Nord 3, so we expect such a turn of events this time too.

However, there’s also a possibility that the name might be skipped due to the superstition surrounding the number 4 in China, in favour of the OnePlus Nord 5.

Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming OnePlus’ mid-range phone.

When will the OnePlus Nord 4 be released?

The OnePlus Ace 3V was released on 21 March 2024 in China.

However, the launch date for the global variant remains uncertain. Given the OnePlus Nord 3’s launch in July last year, it’s possible we’ll have to wait until July 2024 for the global release.

MySmartPrice, which reported on its appearance on databases and listings pages, simply suggests the phone is coming “soon”. However, that process only tends to happen a few weeks before any launch, so July would make sense.

GSMArena also says the launch “should happen soon”.

As a reminder, here are the release dates of the previous models in the Nord series which has been July almost every time:

It’s worth noting that the OnePlus Nord 4 might not be available in the UK, especially considering that its predecessor, the Nord 3, was not sold in the UK market at first before the company did a u-turn.

It’s also unlikely to be sold in the US, though that’s less surprising – none of those models had launched there either.

How much will the OnePlus Nord 4 cost?

The OnePlus Ace 3V is priced competitively, starting at CNY1,999 (£219/$278/€255) in China, with higher-tier variants available for CNY2,599 (£285/$361/€332). However, at this point we do not know how much it might cost outside China.

Here are the prices of previous models during their initial launch:

  • OnePlus Nord – £379
  • OnePlus Nord 2 – £399/€399
  • OnePlus Nord 2T – £369/€399
  • OnePlus Nord 3 – £499/€499

Given the upward price trend of the models in the Nord series, it is very likely that the Nord 4 will cost a minimum of £499/€499.

What specs and features will the OnePlus Nord 4 have?

As the OnePlus Nord 4 is likely to be the same as the OnePlus Ace 3V, we already know what to expect from this device.

Design

The phone features flat sides with chamfered edges and all physical buttons placed on the right side, except for the OnePlus’ distinctive alert slider located on the left. Its front hosts a flat display with thin, albeit non-uniform bezels and a centered camera hole. The device’s frame is constructed from plastic material.

On the back, two vertically aligned cameras are housed within a slightly protruding camera island situated in the top-left corner. The OnePlus logo is centered on the rear side of the phone. Additionally, the device boasts an IP65 rating, safeguarding it against splashes and dust and offers colour options in black and silver variants.

Display

The OnePlus Ace 3V boasts a 6.7-inch 1.5K OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and supports 2160Hz PWM dimming.

With a maximum brightness of up to 1,100 nits and a peak brightness of 2150 nits, the display promise to offer vibrant visuals and excellent visibility even in bright environments.

Performance

The standout feature of the OnePlus Ace 3V is its performance, spearheaded by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. This makes it the first phone globally to integrate this cutting-edge chipset.

And if you needed any more evidence that it’ll be the Nord 4, leaker Yogesh Brar says it’ll also have the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset. It’s also been spotted on the Geekbench 6 benchmarking software (via MySmartPrice) with the chipset and encouraging scores.

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is a quad-core setup with a Prime Cortex X4 core clocked at 2.8 GHz, four powerful Cortex A720 cores at 2.6 GHz, and three Cortex A520 efficiency cores at 1.9 GHz. Expected to rival the forthcoming Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 in performance, these chipsets are also distinguished by their advanced built-in AI capabilities.

Accompanying this processor is the latest UFS 4.0 storage and LPDDR5X RAM, ensuring swift operation and smooth multitasking. The phone is available with 12GB or 16GB of RAM. The first model includes either 256GB or 512GB of storage, while the second variant is available as a 512GB-only.

Cameras

The OnePlus Ace 3V is equipped with a dual-camera system comprising a 50Mp Sony IMX 882 sensor as the primary camera, featuring an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS).

The secondary camera is an 8Mp Sony IMX355 ultrawide sensor with a 112° field of view (FoV). For selfies and video calls, the device houses a 16Mp front-facing camera.

OnePlus

Battery & charging

The phone is fueled by a substantial 5,500mAh battery, complemented by 100W fast charging capability for swift replenishment. The charger is included in the retail box, and will be with the global variant too.

Software & connectivity

The OnePlus Ace 3V ships with Android 14, running on ColourOS 4 out of the box. OnePlus commits to providing three major software updates and four years of security patches.

It incorporates convenient features like an in-display fingerprint scanner for seamless authentication, NFC for easy wireless transactions, and an IR blaster for controlling compatible devices.
