'For now, you can adapt': £25m Tottenham player hints Ange Postecoglou is using him in the wrong position

One Tottenham player has now hinted that Ange Postecoglou is using him in the wrong position.

The comments came during an interview posted by Tottenham at Hotspur Way.

So, which Tottenham player suggested that Ange Postecoglou is using him incorrectly? Let’s take a look…

Dejan Kulusevski hints Ange Postecoglou is not playing him in his best position

Well, it was Dejan Kulusevski who suggested that he would be better off playing centrally – rather than being deployed out wide.

The Sweden international has made 54 appearances on the right flank since arriving at Tottenham on loan for 18 months back in January 2022 – Spurs later spent £25m to sign him permanently.

Kulusevski has made a name for himself as a highly technical winger who thrives when cutting inside on his stronger left foot – although the Swede feels he is most effective in the middle of the pitch.

The Tottenham No.21 said: “That was my position back then, mezzala (a half winger or wide central midfielder). Nah (when asked if this position at Spurs is now his role). I think that in the future – when I’m gonna be at my best – I think it’s gonna be in a central role, but for now, you know, you can adapt.

“I play as a winger, but a lot of things I do, they’re centrally also.”

Kulusevski – who has been backed to captain Sweden – has scored six goals and provided three assists in 29 appearances this season while playing out wide, which is still a decent return for someone who feels more comfortable centrally.

Tottenham may be aware of this

It is possible that Tottenham are aware of Kulusevski’s desire to play centrally, and are making transfer plans to accommodate him in that area.

The Independent believe Wolves No.7 Pedro Neto is a primary target for Spurs this summer.

Interestingly, the Portugal international is a right winger who cuts inside on his stronger left foot, which could suggest Tottenham are planning to sign him as a replacement for Kulusevski out wide and move the Swede infield.

That would be a logical assumption, or else Kulusevski – one of Tottenham’s best players – would be sidelined, which feels unlikely.

You might argue that Neto is being targeted for depth, but with Wolves holding out for £80m this summer, we doubt Daniel Levy would sanction such a deal for a squad player.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Spurs, as this summer could see a position change for Kulusevski – depending on who joins Tottenham.
