‘Really good’: Chelsea academy star admits he’d love to defend like Ben Chilwell

One current Chelsea academy star has now claimed he would love to develop the defensive abilities of one of the first team stars at the club.

Jamaican Dujuan Richards told the 5 Stand that he is an admirer of how vice-captain Ben Chilwell defends, particularly in a one-versus-one scenario.

Richards has taken a while to join up with the Chelsea youth squads since being signed, however has eased into life in the Premier League 2 very quickly.

He has two goals in five games in that competition, however with his minutes being limites he is averaging a goal every 86 minutes.

It remains to be seen if next season will see a loan spell in his future, or if he is set to be given an opportunity to impress as part of the first team.

However, it seems he already has had an opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the more established stars.

Richards praises Chilwell

He has now come out and claimed that he is admirable of the defensive ability of one of their first team stars.

He said: “I’d take Ben Chilwell’s defensive ability. He’s really good in one-versus-one situations.”

While it’s fair to see Chilwell is certainly one of the better players in his position in the league, it would be believed that his strengths normally lie in the attacking side of the role.

This is the opposite to fellow competitor for the left-back position in Marc Cucurella, who seems to be far more focused on getting things right in his own third.

This did not stop the Spaniard finding the net for the very first time for Chelsea last time out, and making a point to Mauricio Pochettino in the process that he should be given more minutes now he is fully fit again at last.
