The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday’s lottery drawing has increased to an estimated $977 million with a cash option of $467 million.
The winning numbers were: 3, 8, 31, 35 and 44. The Mega Ball drawn was 16 with a Megaplier of 3X.
If someone wins, it would be the 10th largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history.
No one has hit the Mega Millions jackpot since Dec. 8 when two tickets sold at the same California gas station hit a $394 million jackpot. Both tickets were bought at a Chevron station in the Encino area of Los Angeles. Since then, 28 drawings have been held without a top prize winner.
No one across the country hit Tuesday’s $893 million jackpot.
Four second-prize tickets matching five numbers but not the Mega Ball were sold for Tuesday’s drawing. Tickets worth $1 million each were bought in Florida, Texas and Virginia.
A second-prize ticket purchased in California is valued at $1,748,612. California lottery prizes vary depending on ticket sales and number of winners. They differ from the fixed second prizes offered in other participating states.
Tuesday’s winning numbers were: 24, 46, 49, 62 and 66. The Mega Ball drawn was 7 with a Megaplier of 2X.
The odds of a $2 ticket winning the jackpot by matching five numbers and the Mega Ball are 302,575,350 to 1. Players have a 1 in 12,607,306 chance of a ticket matching five numbers but not the Mega Ball and winning at least $1 million. The odds of matching four numbers plus the Mega Ball for a prize valued of at least $10,000 are 931,001 to 1.
Mega Millions drawings are held on Tuesday and Friday in 45 states, along with Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is worth an estimated $750 million with a cash option of $360.8 million.
