The German government has condemned Friday evening's attack by gunmen in Moscow that killed at least 115 people and expressed its sympathy to the families of the victims.

"We condemn the terrible terrorist attack on innocent concert-goers in Moscow. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and all those injured," Chancellor Olaf Scholz wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday morning.

Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock posted the same comments on X, while Economics Minister Robert Habeck also wrote: "What terrible news from Moscow" as he expressed his condolences. "It is important to clarify the background quickly."

Following the attack on the Crocus City Hall event centre on the edge of Moscow, the number of dead had risen to 115, Russian authorities said mid-morning.

The emergency services found more bodies while clearing away the rubble in the centre's concert hall, the Moscow branch of the Investigative Committee wrote on Telegram.
