Arsenal star now wants Emirates stay but 'no talks' have taken place, Arteta open to sale

Arsenal star Thomas Partey faces an uncertain future this summer, but it has now emerged that he would prefer to remain at the club.

The midfielder has struggled with injuries throughout his Arsenal career, and has hardly featured all season. Mikel Arteta can no longer rely on him to stay fit, and there is now less dependence on the 30-year-old.

The arrival of Declan Rice, the incredible form of Jorginho in recent months and the potential signing of Martin Zubimendi could mean that there is little room left in the squad for Partey, who is also one of the highest earners in the squad, with one year left on his deal.

Thomas Partey wants Arsenal stay despite Arteta preference

A report from Football Transfers has now revealed that despite talk of a move away, Partey would prefer to stay at Arsenal this summer, but this is not a mutual desire shared by the club.

“Partey’s contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in 2025 While the player’s favoured option is to stay put, the Premier League title hopefuls are eager to sell in order to boost their financial position,” the report stated.

“There have been no talks over extending his deal, although the door remains slightly ajar for Partey to save his Arsenal career.”

With such little time left on his deal, Arsenal will either have to sell Partey, or extend his contract to avoid losing him for free, and given the lack of talks over a new deal, all signs point towards a summer exit.

Although a top-class midfielder when fit, and someone who can also provide cover as an inverted full-back, Partey’s injury problems have made him a completely unreliable figure in the Arsenal squad.

Partey is not getting any younger, and his form towards the end of last season was questionable anyway.

There should not be any talk over a new contract or an extended stay, and Arsenal will hope that interest from Saudi Arabian sides remains, with Partey linked with a move last summer.

Signing a younger, more reliable option such as Zubimendi would allow Arsenal to move on from a player who has frustrated with injuries since his arrival in 2020, and selling him whilst he still has value would also benefit the club financially.
