£43m forward now sends message to Virgil van Dijk, after claims Liverpool want to sign him this summer

There’s plenty to sort out at Liverpool before the summer transfer window rolls around again.

The Reds could still have a quite superb season. With the Premier League and Europa League titles still on the line, Jurgen Klopp’s final campaign could yet go out with the biggest of bangs.

Beyond that, Liverpool need to finalise exactly who will be succeeding Klopp in the Anfield dugout. They also need to sort out some precarious looking contract situations.

And then, finally, they can turn their attention to making some new additions. With that in mind, one player already linked with joining Liverpool has been spotted interacting online with Virgil van Dijk.

Donyell Malen sends Van Dijk message

Van Dijk is actually one of the player’s who’s contract is causing a bit of a headache at Liverpool. There’s unfortunately an outside chance that he leaves the club this summer.

Hopefully that won’t come to pass though, and the Dutchman can continue leading the Reds in the fantastic manner he has been of late. In that scenario, it could be that he’s joined at Anfield by his national team colleague Donyell Malen.

Malen has been having a good season with Borussia Dortmund and has been linked with Liverpool as a result. And having starred alongside Van Dijk in the Netherlands’ 4-0 win over Scotland last night, the 25-year-old was in a celebratory mood.

After Liverpool’s captain posted some snaps from the game on Instagram last night, Malen was in the comments, posting a heart emoji and a bicep bulge.

Will Donyell Malen join Liverpool

There’s every chance that Liverpool could be looking for a new forward this summer. It’s true that they’re well stocked, for now, but they may be in the position of needing to replace two key players.

Mohamed Salah’s future has long been a source of debate. As the Saudi Arabian clubs are likely to push for him again this summer, it remains to be seen how that situation is handled.

And then there’s Luis Diaz, who could reportedly be on his way to PSG. Losing either of those two would open up a big gap to be plugged.

In terms of Malen, he seems likely to be available this summer. As per German journalist Florian Plettenberg on X, the Dortmund man will cost around £43m.

For Liverpool, that is more or less the kind of price range they usually shop in. At 25, Malen is perhaps ever so slightly older than the players they’d usually be after, but still has enough potential to grow in to.

We’ve seen Van Dijk use his connections in the Dutch squad to help bring Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch to Anfield over the last year. Maybe the big man is pushing to make it a hat-trick with Malen.
