Shannen Doherty hits out at conspiracies as she praises Kate Middleton amid her own cancer battle

By Jamie Roberts

Shannen Doherty has hit out at conspiracy theorists who plagued Princess Kate prior to her cancer diagnosis.

The Charmed star, 52, admitted she "admires" the Princess of Wales for releasing the statement. It comes as the actress continues to share updates on her own cancer battle.

Despite being full of praise for Kate, Shannen slammed those who shared wild ideas about Kate's whereabouts as she tried to deal with her diagnosis in private. The former Beverly Hills, 90210 star took to Instagram to share her dismay.

She said: "We ALL have the right to go through illness or life privately. The onslaught of conspiracy theories, ownership, and plain, morbid curiosity forced this person to explain herself before she had come to terms with it and explained to her children.

"I pray this is a learning moment for us all to respect, privacy or others, regardless of being in the public eye."

As Shannen continued her outburst, she praised Kate for how she is dealing with the situation. Shannen added: "And Princess Kate, I admire your strength through the endless onslaught you’ve been under while going thru (sic) cancer."

Her comments come after people continued to question the princess' whereabouts and well-being. Kate hadn't made a public appearance since her abdominal surgery in January. An image of her shared on Mother's Day further fuelled speculation and fed into the conspiracies after it was confirmed the snap had been edited.

However, on Friday Kate released a brave statement confirming her condition. Kate announced she is undergoing treatment for her diagnosis and thanked those who had been supportive of her. She admitted the news had come as a shock for her and her young family, before asking for privacy while she undergoes her course of treatment.

"As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment, she said. "But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok."

She added: "We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery."
