'4/10, 'must have higher expectations': Nations media seriously unimpressed by Manchester Utd man last night

Like most of the top Premier League clubs this week, Manchester United have a number of their players away on international duty.

All eyes were on Kobbie Mainoo for England and the teenager was rewarded for his recent form by getting onto the field against Brazil.

As well as Mainoo, Harry Maguire also featured for the Three Lions and did well enough. Away from England, Rasmus Hojlund played for Denmark, while Bruno Fernandes featured and scored as Portugal hammered Sweden.

Speaking of the Denmark team, United also had another player in action during last nights 0-0 draw with Switzerland in the form of Christian Eriksen.

The experienced Dane might be one of the elder statesmen at Old Trafford now, but his lack of game-time and match sharpness proved telling last night.

Danish media outlet Sport.TV2 assessed Eriksen’s output in the game. And it’s safe to say he didn’t exactly impress.

“Had Denmark’s most dangerous attempt. But also had several uncharacteristic ball losses. We must have higher expectations of a player like him. After all, he must be our creator,” they wrote.

Eriksen wasn’t alone in having a bad game in fairness to him. However, it was an insight into just where he is as a player right now.

Christian Eriksen struggling for form for Manchester United and Denmark

It’s always hard for a player to turn up for their country when they’ve not been getting regular minutes at club level.

For Eriksen, it seemed to catch up with him a touch here as well. Denmark were poor in general but as this review says, the experienced midfielder is and needs to be one of their key players.

If the likes of Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund are not performing for Denmark, then they’ll struggle.

For United fans watching on, it was yet another performance that showed the level has dipped a bit for Eriksen in recent times. The summer, then, will be interesting when it comes to his future.
