What people are saying after Ezri Konsa's England debut

Ezri Konsa has been waiting a long time for this one, but he finally made his England debut on Saturday.

England locked horns with South American giants Brazil in an international friendly at Wembley, with several Aston Villa players featuring.

Ollie Watkins started up front for Gareth Southgate’s side, but hardly got any service.

Whilst Ezri Konsa was introduced into the action early in the first half when Kyle Walker got injured and Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz was a late sub for the visitors – Jack Grealish and Declan Rice reacted.

From the get-go, the task of Aston Villa’s versatile defender was to mark one of the world’s best – Vinicius Jr.

He did that pretty well and was praised by several England fans on Twitter for his debut display.

First of all, it’s not easy coming straight off the bench and into such a pressured environment,

Whilst it’s even more difficult having to face a player of Vinicius Jr’s magnitude.

Either way, the England fans were impressed by what he produced and how he also needs to play ahead of somebody like Harry Maguire.

Everyone knows that Gareth Southgate has his favourites, so that isn’t going to change anytime soon, but it was a thumbs-up display from Villa’s man.

Ezri Konsa impresses on England debut v Brazil

Ezri Konsa to start for England?

Now that Konsa’s debut is out of the way, is a start now in the offing and as soon as Tuesday?

Kyle Walker went off injured and you have to assume he won’t be risked by Southgate, especially given that these are friendlies.

England face Belgium and this is a big chance for Konsa to earn more minutes and further increase his chances of making Euro 2024.

There is a lot of competition in the squad, and with several players still injured, Konsa has to take his chance here.

So far, it’s positive, but you feel he has to impress that little bit more because he has just entered the England fold, with others having some sort of reputation behind them already.
