John Souttar handed hefty rise as Rangers dominate the latest Premiership market value update

Five Rangers stars are among the top 10 players in the Scottish Premiership who have seen the biggest rise in their respective transfer values.

Ever since the 2021/22 campaign, according to data released by Transfermarkt in December last year, Rangers’ overall squad value has decreased year-on-year.

It was during that season when Rangers reached the Europa League Final and won the Scottish Cup, aiding in a huge boost to the squad’s overall value – around £138m in total.

But since then, the Light Blues have sacked two managers and haven’t been able to wrestle the Scottish Premiership title off of arch-rivals Celtic.

Unforgivably, the Ibrox club went trophy-less throughout the 2022/23 season as the Hoops scooped up a domestic Treble and generally, before Philippe Clement’s arrival as boss in October, it’s been a dire state of affairs for Gers supporters.

But the Belgian has revitalised the club within the space of five months and won the first silverware of the domestic season in the Viaplay Cup against Aberdeen.

Rangers, after being seven points behind in the title race when Michael Beale was sacked in October, are now just one point off the top with a game in hand over Celtic.

They’ve won 12 of their last 15 games in all competitions and with that, Transfermarkt’s latest transfer value update for the Scottish Premiership sees Rangers benefit the most.

John Souttar and four more see values soar

Five Rangers stars have saw their transfer values increase since Transfermarkt’s latest significant update in December 2023. They are:

  • John Souttar – £2.1m (+£862k)
  • Todd Cantwell – £7.3m (+£431k)
  • Ridvan Yilmaz – £4.3m (+£431k)
  • Mohamed Diomande – £3m (+£431k)
  • Dujon Sterling – £2.5m (+£431k)

John Souttar – who is currently on international duty with Scotland – has benefitted from the biggest rise.

The central defender has enjoyed a very good season and has managed to stay injury-free for extended periods of time.

He’s played every minute in nine of the last 10 Scottish Premiership matches for Rangers and performed brilliantly against Benfica in the Europa League last 16 second leg despite defeat at Ibrox.

Ridvan Yilmaz and Dujon Sterling have emerged from the shadows of the early part of the season to now becoming vital members of Philippe Clement’s first-team squad in Govan.

While Todd Cantwell and Mohamed Diomande have been very impressive across the course of 2024 so far with the Ivorian already netting twice in six league games.

Rangers’ total squad value now stands at £93.7m, up from £86.6m in December 2023. However, Transfermarkt have devalued a number of stars in the team:

  • Kemar Roofe – £1.7m (-£258k)
  • Nicolas Raskin – £6.4m (-£431k)
  • Ben Davies – £2.5m (-£431k)
  • Kieran Dowell – £1.3m (-£431k)
  • Danilo – £5.1m (-£862K)
  • Borna Barisic – £3.8m (-£862K)
  • Ryan Jack – £1.3m (-£862K)
