Report: What sources close to Thomas Partey are now saying about his Arsenal future

A report has shared what sources close to Thomas Partey have said about his future at Arsenal recently.

Thomas Partey has barely featured for the Gunners this season due to injuries. The 30-year-old picked up a groin injury early in the season before a hamstring issue kept him out between November and late February.

It’s led to Partey making just seven appearances for Arsenal in all competitions this term.

Due to the arrival and impact of Declan Rice, Partey’s future at the Emirates Stadium remains uncertain and Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen to bolster his options in midfield this summer.

Most recently, Real Sociedad have expressed an interest in signing the Ghanian and according to Football Transfers, Partey would be keen on a switch back to La Liga.

What sources close to Partey have said about his Arsenal future

The outlet claims that sources close to the midfielder have said he would prefer a switch back to Spain over a move to the Saudi Pro League.

It’s noted that Sociedad are one of the clubs to have already expressed an interest in bringing Partey back to Spain. But the La Liga outfit aren’t willing to spend more than €25 million (£21.5 million) to sign Partey this summer.

Of course, that would be less than half of the fee the Gunners paid to sign him from Atletico Madrid (£45 million) back in 2020.

Partey’s injury record at Arsenal

It’s fair to say that Partey hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to injuries during his time at Arsenal.

The midfielder only missed a total of seven games at Atletico but since making the switch to north London, he’s missed 52 games for club and country due to injuries.

In previous seasons, his absence would often lead to a downturn in form for Arsenal. But that is no longer the case after Rice’s arrival over the summer.

There’s no doubt that Partey is an exceptional player on his day but it does feel like the right time for Arsenal to move him on.

It’s no secret that Arteta is eyeing a new midfielder this summer and as Partey has barely played this season, his days in north London could be numbered.
