£50m Man City player now sends message after suffering frustrating setback, Danilo reacts

Manchester City fans watched on in horror last night as Kyle Walker went off with an apparent hamstring injury during the early stages of England’s friendly with Brazil.

The full-back was captaining the side in the absence of Harry Kane, but the 33-year-old had to be withdrawn less than midway into the first-half.

Walker went down and received treatment, and then attempted to play on.

A few minutes later he was taken off and replaced by Ezri Konsa.

Earlier today, £50 million star Walker took to Instagram to check in with fans concerned about his latest injury setback…

After the game, Gareth Southgate was asked about the injury to Walker and he could not really give out much information.

He said (via the Independent): “He’s not had many injuries, so he himself isn’t sure whether it’s just tightness. I suspect if he’s feeling it, it’s a little bit more than that but we’ll know a bit more over the next 24 and 36 hours.”

At this point, it is very doubtful that he will play in England’s next friendly against Belgium on Tuesday.

This morning, Walker took to social media to check in with supporters, who have been expressing their concern.

Acknowledging the fact he was named captain, Walker wrote: “Frustrating to come off injured in last night’s game especially when captaining the side. A truly great honour. Hopefully it’s nothing too serious and I’m back ASAP.”

There was obviously a lot of support for Walker in the comments.

There was actually a nice show of support from Danilo, who played for City from 2017 until 2019.

He showed his support by way of leaving a heart and a curled arm emoji.

Nice touch from Danilo

As Walker says, hopefully this setback is not one that will keep him out for weeks on end.

Maybe the fact he was able to play on a bit before eventually going off is a sign it may not be – fans would certainly like to hope so.

Losing the world-class Walker would be a blow, purely because he is very unique. That said, we know that Manuel Akanji can play at right-back and do a job there. Rico Lewis and John Stones are also options.

It is nice to see Danilo sending a message of support to Walker.

The star, who made 60 appearances for City, was effectively pushed out at City due to the arrival of Walker, but there is clearly a respect there for the England man.
