Driver killed, 2 hurt in crash on N.J. Turnpike, cops say

A man was killed and two people were injured in a crash that involved two cars striking a guardrail on the New Jersey Turnpike in Fort Lee early Sunday morning, officials said.

The crash took place on the southbound ramp near milepost 121.5 just before 6:30 a.m. and killed an unidentified driver from the Bronx, State Police said.

According to investigators, the victim, 31, was driving an Acura with a 24-year-old female passenger, also from the Bronx, on the ramp from Route 4 to the Turnpike southbound local lanes when it struck a concrete wall.

At the same time, a Ford car driven by a 23-year-old from Elizabeth was heading south in the Turnpike’s local lanes. After the Acura hit the concrete wall, it veered left across a curb median and entered the southbound local lanes, colliding with the Ford.

Both cars then struck the left guardrail, police said.

As a result, the driver of the Acura died, and his passenger was injured. The 23-year-old driving had minor injuries, officials said.

The crash remains under investigation, and there is no additional information available, according to State Police.
