‘I will say’: Joao Cancelo says £37m Liverpool player is the toughest opponent he’s faced in England

Current Barcelona man Joao Cancelo has now admitted that a Liverpool player is the toughest opponent he’s faced in England.

Cancelo is of course on loan from Manchester City right now, a player who has foiled Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side on one or two occasions.

Of course, Liverpool do now have a player who is emulating a similar path to Cancelo positionally, with Trent Alexander-Arnold now inverting into midfield.

Trent has obviously been a bigg loss for Liverpool of late, and when watching England last night it was hard not to imagine the 25-year-old helping out in the middle.

It seems that a home tie with Sheffield United on April 4th is still being earmarked as the possible return date for the defender, who will add much needed creativity when he’s back.

That being said, whilst Joao Cancelo has been away with Portugal this week, he has been asked about the toughest opponents he’s ever faced.

And whilst the defender said Neymar was the hardest overall, he named Mohamed Salah as the best player he went one-on-one with in England.

Cancelo partook in a question and answer session with Abola who posted his responses on Tik Tok.

And although Liverpool fans won’t be surprised that Cancelo chose their £37m-star, the other name opponent he mentioned may turn some heads.

When asked, Cancelo simply said: “In England? Salah or [Christian] Pulisic. I will say Salah.”

Of course, it may have caused a little bit of outrage if Cancelo had decided Pulisic was the hardest opponent he faced, a strong player but someone who’s not quite in Salah’s category.

Cancelo had some amazing battles with Salah over the years, two opponents who hopefully will one day square off again.

Perhaps that could be in next season’s Champions League, it’ll all depend where Cancelo ends up – given he was even linked with an Arsenal move today.

But what’s certain is Cancelo won’t face Liverpool whilst Klopp is at the helm ever again.

And with that being said, Michael Edwards may have now found an alternative to Xabi Alonso for next season.
