Celtic's recruitment questioned as SPFL man baffled at January transfer omission from club

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers acquired Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah during a quiet January transfer window at Parkhead.

Since then, both men have gone on to have an impact in Glasgow’s east end, with the former recovering from dental surgery to stake a claim on the right flank.

Brendan Rodgers elaborated on Kuhn’s early struggles, stating earlier this month: “I think we mentioned it before, for anyone not working with him every day and seeing the difference, when he first came in he was in the midst of his break and I think he said he’d lost seven kilos.”

Nevertheless, the mid-season window wasn’t warmly received by the entire support, as the Bhoys failed to bring in a left-back before the transfer deadline.

Despite this, Celtic sit a point clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership with eight matches to go and will fancy their chances of recording a third successive league title once all is said and done.

Concerning our lack of activity in the winter market, bygones will have to be bygones, with the upcoming summer window likely to be where the majority of alterations to Rodgers’ squad unfold.

Stephen O’Donnell is baffled Celtic didn’t sign Premiership duo

Before Idah arrived on deadline day, several strikers were linked with a move to Parkhead, including Brondby’s Mathias Kvistgaarden, Aberdeen forward Bojan Miovski and Heart of Midlothian talisman Lawrence Shankland.

Speaking about the latter two, Motherwell defender Stephen O’Donnell is baffled that Celtic didn’t try harder to land either Miovski or Shankland, given that both players have excelled in Scottish Premiership action this season.

O’Donnell also cited Hearts’ recent recruitment spree involving domestic talent amid news that Blair Spittal, Yan Dhanda, and James Penrice have signed pre-contract deals at Tynecastle [BBC Sport].

He stated [Go Radio Football Show]: “It’s kind of what I thought possibly Celtic or Rangers would’ve done with the likes of Shankland or Miovski when they were scoring all the goals

“You can get these guys for a fraction of the price you spend on unknown names from different countries, and I just thought one of them would’ve taken him in January.”

Miovski and Shankland both possess qualities that would enrich the Hoops’ forward line; nevertheless, it would be hard to envisage either player accepting second-fiddle behind Kyogo Furuhashi, which may have been the case.

Furthermore, Idah has provided some variety in the final third, and it will be interesting to see whether Rodgers tries to deal him in permanently this summer.
