‘Really good relationship’: Anthony Gordon admits he is very close with £60m player who Newcastle want

Anthony Gordon has recently admitted that he has a very close relationship with one of Newcastle United’s summer targets.

Gordon is currently away on international duty and could be doing some scouting work for Newcastle who will be looking to make some big moves in this upcoming transfer window.

There’s one player in particular in the England squad who Newcastle have been watching closely, and Gordon’s friendship with him could prove to be key in making a move.

Gordon to help Newcastle make key summer addition

This is Gordon’s first ever call-up to the England first-team and the attacker was picked to start Saturday’s game against Brazil in which he looked to be a bright spark for an otherwise lacklustre side.

Prior to the game, the England players were asked on TikTok who they wold be sitting next to on the team bus, and for Newcastle’s winger there was just one answer.

Gordon claimed that he and Jarrad Branthwaite, who was also called up for the first time, have a very close relationship having played together at Everton for years before he made the move to Newcastle.

Newcastle have shown a lot of interest in the £60m defender who is also wanted by Man City, but his friendship with Gordon could be key in persuading him to make the move to Tyneside instead.

When asked who he was sitting next to, Gordon said: “Jarrad Branthwaite. I’ve played with him for years so we’ve got a really good relationship.”

Branthwaite would be perfect for Newcastle

With the news that Sven Botman will now be out possibly until the new year, Newcastle are absolutely desperate for a new centre-back in the summer to fill in alongside Fabian Schar.

The Magpies were already looking for a long-term replacement for the Swiss international who will be 33 this year anyway, though now their efforts will have ramped up to find the perfect candidate.

Branthwaite would prove a costly option, but at just 20-years-old he looks to have so much potential and could be a leading figure at the back for Newcastle for the next decade if all goes well.

Branthwaite’s promising form at Everton has even caught the eye of Real Madrid, so Newcastle certainly won’t be without strong competition if they are to make a move for the Carlisle-born defender.
