Eddie Howe can't afford to start £13m Newcastle player vs West Ham, it would be a big mistake - opinion

Eddie Howe is under a lot of pressure at Newcastle United and he can’t afford to make any more big mistakes as head coach.

There are plenty of rumours going around thatNewcastle could look to replace Howe with a big name manager in the summer should he fail to turn things around.

Currently sitting 11th in the Premier League, Howe has a lot of work to do in these final 10 games to try and push Newcastle back into those European spots, and it starts this weekend against West Ham.

Howe has huge decision to make in Newcastle team

Both Newcastle and West Ham are battling for European positions this season with Saturday’s opponents in seventh, and yet there’s been a lot of discontent amongst the fanbases quite recently.

Newcastle’s form has taken a big hit and the latest league defeat against Chelsea and an FA Cup exit against Man City was particularly disappointing, though the latter to be expected.

Many believe that Howe has not helped himself, however, with the 46-year-old coach staying loyal to Dan Burn who has really been struggling at for Newcastle lately, and there’s every chance that happens again on Saturday.

Jarrod Bowen is in the form of his life right now having worked his way into the England team and will be licking his lips at the prospect of facing the £13m left-back this weekend who has had to be substituted in the second half multiple times this season.

Newcastle already have answers to Burn problem

Fans have been crying out for somebody else to fill in at left-back with Burn himself a centre-back by trade, though Howe has stuck to his guns which proved effective in the previous campaign.

Tino Livramento has proved to be a quality option to have as he can play down either side and has already faced some of Europe’s top players at left-back in the Champions League, coping very well.

Lewis Hall was another signed to play in that position, but Howe doesn’t look very confident in the 19-year-old’s ability as he has only named him in Newcastle’s starting 11 four times across all competitions.

Finally, Matt Targett is yet another option for Howe, and even though he has struggled with an injury lately, he is expected to back in contention for West Ham and could prove to be a better option up against Bowen.
