King Charles is “hoping to attend” Royal Ascot this summer as he remains “optimistic” about his recovery, according to sources.
The monarch has stepped back from public-facing engagements as he continues to receive treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.
However, sources have said that Charles remains “so optimistic” about his recovery that he hopes to attend Royal Ascot and other summer parties.
The summer parties held at Buckingham Palace will honour community and military heroes.
Last year, the King and Queen Camilla led the carriage procession at Royal Ascot for the first time in Charles’s reign.
The King is also hoping to attend the Easter Sunday service with a reduced royal turnout.
The royal turnout on Easter Sunday is expected to be considerably smaller than usual to minimise Charles's contact with other people.
A Palace source told The Telegraph: “The King and Queen are hoping to attend some form of Easter service in Windsor.
“However, it will not be the large family gathering that we might expect to see in different circumstances.”
The Palace also confirmed that Princess Kate and Prince William and their three children will not be attending the service.
The King is also hoping to attend his birthday celebration, Trooping the Colour, in June depending on medical advice.
Aids to the monarch are already preparing ways that Charles may be able to attend the event amidst his ongoing treatment.
The King may travel by carriage from Buckingham Palace and watch the festivities from a podium rather than on horseback.
A source told the Daily Mail: “There are a number of key events His Majesty would love to attend coming up in the diary and this is at the top of the list.”
Paddy Harverson, the King’s former communications secretary, said that the public may have to get used to a “new reality” as the King and Kate continue cancer treatment.
There have been claims that the royal institution is in a “fragile” state following the Princess of Wales and King Charles’s cancer diagnoses.

But Harverson denied these claims stating: “We just have to come to terms with the new reality, there’s fewer of them.
“And so everyone just needs to sort of understand that they will still be busy, they will get over this.
“I am highly confident that the King, who I know well, is incredibly strong, very resilient, a great spiritual person, so I know he’ll get through it.
“And likewise with Kate, I think once they’re through this sticky patch, I think we’ll get back to normal.”
