'Would rather cash in': Celtic want to sell 24-year-old, multiple clubs could be keen - journalist

With Celtic quickly heading towards the summer transfer window, there are likely to be significant moves made by Brendan Rodgers.

The Celtic manager will be looking to add players to his squad as well as getting those who are not contributing off the wage bill so he can reinvest that money into the Hoops’ first team.

Rodgers was quick to send players out on loan in January and it is likely that these players are going to be moved on at the end of this season. Well, with the exception of Bosun Lawal that is.

Hyeokkyu Kwon is enjoying life at St Mirren and Mikey Johnston is having the best spell of his career at West Brom in the English Championship.

Six goals and an assist has made Johnston the hot topic of conversation down south and whilst his Celtic career looks to be over, a claim has been made that Johnston will have plenty of suitors in England after his blistering impact in the West Midlands.

Celtic want to sell Mikey Johnston

Journalist, Chris Dunlavy, has claimed in The Football League Paper [print edition page 10] from the 24th of March that Celtic want to sell Johnston but there will be more than just West Brom interested in the winger.

Dunlavy said, “Celtic, their fingers burned by Johnston’s medical history, would rather cash in whilst his stock is high. What they demand will very much depend on who is interested.

“But if Johnston can maintain his current form until the end of the season, and most importantly come through unscathed, West Brom will not be the only club in pursuit.”

West Brom are sitting sixth in the Championship just nine points from the play-off places. If the Republic of Ireland winger helps take them to the Premier League it is likely he will stay at the club beyond the summer.

However, with the amount of cash swimming around England’s second tier if Johnston was to move on there are plenty of clubs in that league that could afford the fee to take him permanently off Celtic’s books.

Whilst losing Johnston won’t matter to the Celtic fans, they will all wish him the best of luck as he looks to kickstart his career away from the fishbowl of Glasgow.
