'Overlooked detail after Kate Middleton's cancer news is alarming for Harry and William' - Opinion

The Princess of Wales and her family have had to survive a difficult few weeks. Not only has the mom-of-three had to endure an endless spiral of conspiracy theories, but she was doing her best trying to protect her children from the online witch hunt while finding the right time to tell them about her diagnosis. Kate Middleton revealed last week she has cancer, and a report says Prince Harry and Meghan weren’t told about her news ahead of it going public, which shows the cracks within the royal family are now beyond repair.

The 42-year-old has put on a brave face while deflecting hateful and spiteful rumors during her recovery from planned abdominal surgery. The princess underwent the operation at the beginning of the year, with the palace telling fans – well in advance – she would be out of service for royal duties until after Easter.

But that didn’t stop social media from sinking their teeth into her.

Baseless claims she was heading into a reality TV Show, or that she had ‘died’ were erupting on platforms such as Twitter and TikTok. Even mainstream US media were jumping on the band wagon. John Oliver and Andy Cohen spread more rumors with their own mouthpieces. Prince William had apologized for his wife’s absence at one event, and no matter what members of The Firm said, it wasn’t enough.

Even Kate Middleton’s uncle headed into Celebrity Big Brother and captilized on his niece being at the center of scrutiny and speculation. He helped add fuel to the fire by evading questions about her health and made strange yet reserved comments on where she was.

Yes, Kate made a mistake with releasing a Photoshopped picture of herself with her three children on UK Mother’s Day. But in the grand scheme of things, it’s not the worst thing to happen this year, let alone in what people face around the world on a daily basis.

After two weeks of even more rumors, with Twitter users holding pitchforks in one hand and a megaphone in the other, the princess had to speak out.

On Friday, she released a video message announcing following her surgery, tests revealed she has a form of cancer and she’s undergoing treatment. One of the most important things to come out of her emotional and heartwrenching speech, was that her mind was on her and William’s children. Telling and supporting Prince George, Louis and Princess Charlotte was the priority. Not responding to the ridiculous conspiracy theories going viral on some app.

After Kate Middleton’s cancer news, a report has come out to say Prince Harry and Meghan Markle weren’t told ahead of time either, which appears to show another alarming message within the palace.

It seems the royal rift is broken, and it may not be fixable. Ever.

The Times reported on Saturday the Duke and Duchess of Sussex weren’t told about Kate’s health update.

Although they are no longer working members of The Firm, Harry and William are still connected by blood. They still share a family, but it seems the distance between them is more than just the Atlantic ocean now.

The insider claimed: “It is understood that Kate’s cancer diagnosis was not shared in advance with Harry and Meghan [Markle].

“Several sources confirm that there were no such conversations and it is thought Harry found out about Kate’s diagnosis from television, at the same time as the public.”

It also echoes the same information a source told the New York Post.

They said: “They had no idea, and only learned of the news around the same time the rest of the world found out.

“This goes to show the irreparable damage they have caused.

“The trust has been broken and the royal family is OK distancing themselves from them.”

This is a stark difference to when King Charles‘ reportedly called his son to tell him the news of his cancer diagnosis. Harry, 39, then said he jumped on the next flight to the UK to see him in person.

The dad-of-two then told Good Morning America that crisis like these can ‘unite families’.

Royal experts believed it could be a building block for the bridges between the families, after a tough few years. However, the recent blow, if true, may be too big to ignore.

Harry jet-setted back to Britain, with Meghan staying behind with their two children, Archie and Lilibet, but for Kate, a short statement was released by the Sussexes instead.

They said: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.”

Royal rift beyond repair?

If we take out the duties, formalities and tradition away for just a moment, and think about the situation as a family, it’s tragic.

The struggle Kate and William have gone through the past few weeks with their young family, like many others around the globe as they’ve been told the same news. It’s heartbreaking.

The 42-year-old released a video explaining the situation on the eve of school break, so her children wouldn’t have to go into the classroom and feel everyone’s eyes on them. Now, the royals have traveled to their estate in Norfolk, away from it all, where it’s quiet. They’ll be able to spend the next few weeks with each other at this gut-wrenching time as they look at the next chapters ahead of them. But it’s also clear what is at the forefront of Kate’s mind. Every step of the way, she’s been thinking about her children.

She didn’t back down to social pressures over the past two weeks, instead the focus has been on her treatment and recovery, and her family.

That’s the bingo card right there. Her family. But the same can’t be said for William and his brother, if Harry and Meghan weren’t told of Kate Middleton’s cancer news before the BBC.

It’s tough to imagine how the past several weeks the heir to the throne couldn’t feel he could call up Harry for support, to hear a comforting voice on the other end of the phone. It’s almost as heartbreaking as the entire situation.

Sources have claimed the ‘trust is broken’ between the two couples and feuding brothers. Since Harry and Meghan left the palace they have spilled the royal family’s dirty laundry multiple times, from Apple TV and CBS Primetime to Netflix. After Harry flew to the UK for 25 hours to see his father, when he was interviewed by GMA, he spoke freely about the experience. But maybe that’s the problem.

If there’s no trust on what will make it onto TV when it comes to Harry and Meghan, no wonder Kate Middleton and William kept the news from them. They had their children to think about, not headlines.

If that’s the case, then Harry and Meghan have a lot of work to do to prevent the remaining bridge from burning down, because right now embers are spreading.
