Euphoria season 3 filming delayed indefinitely as cast can 'pursue other opportunities'

The filming of the highly anticipated HBO series Euphoria has been delayed indefinitely with star-studded cast members welcome to "pursue other opportunities."

The popular series starring star-studded cast Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Colman Domingo, Alexa Demie, and more were slated to begin production soon, but plans have been recently switched up. It has been reported that the reason behind the delay is that director Sam Levinson needs more time to work on the captivating teen drama's scripts.

In a statement shared with Deadline, HBO wrote: "HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season," and added: "In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”

According to insiders, the possibility of doing a movie instead of a third season also was considered but the focus has returned back to producing a new season. Casey Bloys Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content, confirmed back in November of last year that the plan was for season three of Euphoria to premiere in 2025, which is still their goal.

In an interview with Elle, Levinson described Season 3 as a "film noir" and teased that Zendaya‘s character Rue, a teenager recovering from addiction, would "explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world."

Actor Colman Domingo who stars as Ali, the mentor to Rue in Euphoria, spoke on Sam's delay in the writing process. In an interview with GQ he said: "[Sam is] a person who writes and rewrites and writes and rewrites again, because I think he’s wrestling with what’s important," He added: "He’s responding immediately to what the ills of the world are. I know that the one thing I can tell you is that he’s very much interested in the existential question of who we are right now. Our souls. That’s what he wants to figure out with season three.”

And while many know that the season will be well worth the wait, fans couldn't help but share their disappointment at the news on X, formerly Twitter. One fan wrote: "Super sad to see this news. The age difference between S2 and S3 is gonna be crazy." Another added: "The kiss of death ‘given permission to peruse other roles’ them actors are never going back to this... ask mindhunter…" And a third wrote: "Euphoria need to drop now I can’t wait any longer."

This comes as the talented cast of the drama series has shot to stardom and have been in high demand since the wrapping of season two. While fans have to wait another year for the next season, they have many opportunities to see the talented stars as Zendaya recently made her return to the big screen for Dune 2, Sydney is embarking on filming for her new horror film Immaculate, and Jacob recently starred in the thriller Saltburn.
