One Liam Millar comment should give Preston North End real transfer hope amid Sunderland interest

The summer transfer window is still a couple of months away from coming into focus but the biggest topic of discussion at Preston North End is probably already known.

Hopes will be high at Deepdale after a very encouraging transfer window last summer.

PNE added Championship experience in Jack Whatmough, Duane Holmes and Will Keane as well as exploring foreign marks for Mads Frøkjær-Jensen and Milutin Osmajic.

That blend is an exciting one and fans will be hoping to see more quality added to Ryan Lowe’s squad for next season and beyond.

We will no doubt see plenty of names being linked with a move to Deepdale but fans will surely be focused on one man – Liam Millar.

The winger is currently on loan from FC Basel and, as things stand, he will be heading back to Switzerland at the end of the season.

PNE will be chasing a permanent move for Millar, who has dazzled fans down the left flank this season whilst chipping in with five goals and five assists.

Millar’s pace and trickery has been just what North End needed and supporters will be ready to refresh social media endlessly this summer, in the hope of seeing Millar sign on.

PNE have Liam Millar hope

Some have wondered whether Championship rivals will swoop in for Millar.

After all, January rumours suggested that Sunderland are eyeing up Millar as a potential replacement for star man Jack Clarke.

PNE will face a battle if Sunderland – or anybody else – joins the race for Millar, but comments from the Canadian may just give North End some hope.

Millar has been speaking to Sask Today whilst on international duty with Canada and was asked about his future.

“You never know what can happen next season,” said Millar. “I have no idea. We’ll have to cross that bridge when I get there,” he added.

Millar seemingly doesn’t know what will happen, whether he will join PNE permanently, head back to Basel or move elsewhere.

The flying winger did though note that he loves being back in the North West of England and being back around his family is helping him find his top form with PNE.

“In Switzerland it was difficult for me sometimes off the field, with the language and not being near my family. My mom, my dad, my brother, my sister. And all that kind of stuff. So being in England, being back in the northwest where they all live, really helps,” said Millar.

“I think the stuff off the pitch really carries on to the pitch and it really helps me to play well,” he added.

Millar seemingly didn’t love life in Switzerland and playing for PNE is working for him on both a personal and a professional level.

North End can offer that stability of staying around the North West, which will surely appeal to Millar after his time with Basel.

PNE have to hope that Millar’s love of being around the North West provides a significant advantage over clubs like Sunderland, with the winger seemingly settled in the area.

Money and ambition will be factors too but after enjoying his time at PNE so much, we think there is a real chance that Millar could commit to North End for the long-term.
