'Quite poorly': Pundit slams Liverpool's potential next manager for how he's treating £100m Tottenham target

Liverpool might have Roberto De Zerbi on their list of potential next manager but the Italian hasn’t impressed everyone of late.

De Zerbi is being mentioned as one of the star names who Liverpool would like to replaceJurgen Klopp.

Indeed, it’s been claimed that Richard Hughes is a big fan of the Brighton boss. Michael Edwards, too, is has apparently earmarked De Zerbi for if he can’t get Xabi Alonso.

However, while De Zerbi has won nationwide praise in the main, not everyone is happy with him.

Roberto De Zerbi criticised for handling of one player

De Zerbi has a talented young squad at Brighton and in the main, he’s got the best out of them.

However, there is a current problem with young striker Evan Ferguson. The talented Ireland star has not scored for a while now and at the weekend, missed a penalty for his country.

But speaking about Ferguson’s drought in front of goal, pundit Dean Ashton has suggested that the striker will come through it. And he’s insisted that De Zerbi is not treating the youngster well enough.

“If we really look at the amount of time he’s played, and I mean consistent game time like four, five, six games starting, which he hasn’t had. De Zerbi, I actually think he’s treated him quite poorly in that sense, when you’ve got someone who has the talents that he has. And probably the penalty miss is confidence because you then lose that feeling as a young player that it’s easy. He’ll come through it because he’s a brilliant player. Of course, it’s easy to put the numbers up and to watch but if you look at it as a whole he’s going to be a terrific player,” Ashton said.

Liverpool will be watching De Zerbi and Evan Ferguson situation

Being a Premier League manager is tough, no matter who you manage. Every decision you make comes under scrutiny and for Roberto De Zerbi, he’ll be trying to navigate this tricky spell for Ferguson.

For Liverpool, getting their new manager decision right is going to be crucial. With that, they’ll be keeping tabs on everything that happens.

Quite what is going on with De Zerbi and Ferguson right now, only they know. But if there is any sign of poor man-management, that might well be a red flag for the Reds.

De Zerbi, then, needs to try and get his £100m man firing before the season ends.
