European leaders are increasingly in agreement that Russia needs to be defeated in Ukraine. Otherwise, the war could threaten EU countries, stated Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda in an interview with Politico.

"I think the understanding is broadening that we have to defeat Russia, because otherwise there will be a continuation of this tragic story... At least I don't see leaders who want to call (Russian President Vladimir) Putin to talk about the issues in Ukraine," emphasized the head of the Lithuanian state.

According to him, in Europe, there is no leader, except for the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, and the Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, who would trust the Russian dictator.

"If (Russia) will break the first defense line (in Ukraine), they will enter and that they will go after us and that there will be second defense line," added the president.

Nauseda emphasized that Moscow is challenging all democracies in Europe. Germany, France, Spain, and even Portugal, which is quite far from the front line, are under threat.

Assistance to Ukraine from EU countries

European Union countries are stepping up assistance to Ukraine against the backdrop of the absence of new deliveries from the United States. Specifically, Europe intends to provide artillery ammunition to our defenders.

The supply of shells is taking place within the framework of the Czech initiative. They are being purchased from third countries to be transferred to Ukraine.

Recently, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal revealed that Ukraine expects to receive the first ammunition under such an initiative as early as April.
