Minister of Defense of Israel Yoav Galant, in response to the adoption of a UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, stated that Israel will not cease its offensive against Hamas, according to Twitter (X) of Israeli Defense Minister.

According to him, the state of Israel has a "moral obligation to continue the fight until its militants are returned and the threat of Hamas is eliminated."

"The decision of the Security Council is not operationally significant for us, and in any case, we will continue to listen to our friendly relations and always do what is right for the security of Israel," added Galant.

He also noted that relations between Israel and the United States are "an anchor in Israel's security and foreign relations," and direct dialogue with the American administration is "an important asset" that cannot be waived. He supported the understanding given by the United States: that the ceasefire will be supported depending on the return of captives.

Galant also emphasized the necessity of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the United States and holding direct dialogue with President Biden and senior administration officials.

Ceasefire resolution

The UN Security Council adopted a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip by the end of Ramadan.
