Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker latest: Man City injury update and potential return dates

Manchester City currently have four players nursing injuries and knocks ahead of a massive match with Arsenal this week.

Pep Guardiola’s side have enjoyed a much-needed break from the intense Premier League title race and tough cup battles this week with the international break.

Manchester City have seen 16 of their players called up to international duty with all but Rico Lewis competing in friendlies rather than competitive fixtures.

Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias have already returned after being rested by Portugal manager Roberto Martinez for Tuesday’s game against Slovenia.

But others haven’t been so lucky, with Kyle Walker and Matheus Nunes picking up knocks with their countries.

With Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson currently sidelined as well, City are sweating on the fitness of four players ahead of the massive title clash with Arsenal on Sunday.

Here is the latest injury news and potential return dates.

Kevin De Bruyne

De Bruyne missed the first half of the season with a serious hamstring tear but returned to his best immediately with 13 assists in 12 games.

However, he has now picked up a groin strain that saw him miss the FA Cup win over Newcastle. Thankfully, it’s not considered too serious and it’s hoped he will be fit to face the Gunners.

What Guardiola said: “Kevin is not ready. He already played in Anfield with some problems. But he’s getting better. He’s not ready for tomorrow; it’s better to take care.”

Potential return date: March 31.

Kyle Walker

Kyle Walker pulled up just 20 minutes into England’s 1-0 friendly defeat to Brazil on Saturday night. The right-back was ‘feeling tightness’ and was taken off as a precaution.

While he will miss Tuesday’s match with Belgium, it’s hoped he will be fit to play against Arsenal.

What Walker said: “Frustrating to come off injured in last night’s game especially when captaining the side. A truly great honour. Hopefully it’s nothing too serious and I’m back ASAP.”

Potential return date: March 31.

Ederson

Goalkeeper Ederson suffered a thigh injury when he collided with Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez and gave away a penalty in the process.

The Brazilian had to go off at Anfield, missed the next match and wasn’t able to go away on international duty. Guardiola was optimistic he would be back for Arsenal, though.

What Guardiola said: “Eddie is getting better. Hopefully, he’ll be ready after the international break.

“Tomorrow, for sure [he is out]. He’ll have two weeks off [and] then we’ll see how he feels – hopefully, as soon as possible.”

Potential return date: March 31.

Matheus Nunes

Nunes enjoyed his first Portugal appearance since December, 2022, last week, scoring a fine goal and earning praise from the media and his manager.

However, his momentum may be halted as he reportedly missed training on Monday with a foot injury. It’s not yet clear if it will keep him out of Tuesday’s game but Guardiola will be keeping everything crossed.

Potential return date: March 31.
