Last time Sheffield Wednesday beat Swansea City, something 'stunning' happened

Sheffield Wednesday host Swansea City in the Championship on Saturday.

Sheffield Wednesday welcome Swansea City to Hillsborough on Saturday as they return to Championship action.

And for both teams, it’s another huge game in the final run-in, with both fighting for survival in the second tier this season.

Danny Rohl and his Wednesday side remain in the bottom three despite winning five of their last eight in the league, but now only a point is between them and Birmingham City in 21st.

Swansea City meanwhile are up in 15th. They’ve lost just one of their last five and went into the international break on the back of a 2-0 win vs rivals Cardiff City.

The Swans currently have a seven-point buffer between them and the bottom three.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Swansea City H2H

The Owls don’t have a very good recent record against Swansea City.

In fact, Sheffield Wednesday have lost their last two outings against the Welsh club, with the last being a 3-0 defeat at the Swansea.com Stadium in September last year.

Sheffield Wednesday have lost three of their last four against the Swans, drawing one, with their last win against Swansea coming back in 2019.

And that remains their only win against Swansea; the two teams have only ever met on 13 occasions with the first coming in 2008.

Swansea City have won six of 13 games against the Owls, drawing six more and losing just the one.

Steve Fletcher scores overhead-kick in Wednesday win over Swansea

Sheffield Wednesday beat Swansea 3-1 at Hillsborough in the 2018/19 season, eventually going to achieve a 12th place finish in the Championship.

That win was inspired by Adam Reach who had a brace to his name after just 32 minutes, with Steven Fletcher putting the Owls 3-0 ahead before the break.

The current Wrexham man scored with a ‘stunning’ overhead-kick as he went on to notch 11 goals in the Championship that season.

And Sheffield Wednesday could certainly do with some of the same magic against the Swans this weekend.

The international break came at a good time for the Owls who were thumped 6-0 by Ipswich Town last time out, with back-to-back defeats following a run of four wins.

Swansea won’t be an easy task at all, but they’ll certainly be more manageable than the likes of Leeds and Ipswich.

Kick off is at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.
