Liverpool told 22-year-old attacker could be the perfect signing for them this summer

It remains a little unclear as to what areas of the team Liverpool will look to upgrade this summer.

Last year, it was all about the midfield. The Reds’ overhaul in the middle of the pitch was long overdue and with four excellent signings, Jurgen Klopp got what he was looking for.

This year, things will be different. Not only will Klopp not be overseeing things, but no one yet has a clear idea of exactly who will be. That makes assessing potential signings a little murky.

Nevertheless, just in case Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards aren’t sure of which players to target, they’ve already been given a strong suggestion of one possible option.

Liverpool told of possible transfer target

With question marks over the futures of both Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz, Liverpool could potentially be looking for a new forward this summer. Along with central defenders, they seem to be the players most regularly linked with moves to Anfield so far.

And with that in mind then, Dutch coach Ferry Verbeek has put forward someone who could strengthen Liverpool’s forward line – Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee.

Having come through at Bayern Munich, Zirkzee has since moved on to Italy. Amidst a good season in Serie A, the 22-year-old has been linked with a move away. And speaking to Sport Italia, Zirkzee’s former coach Verbeek has backed him to be a success at Liverpool.

“I think he would definitely have a bright future at Milan,” began the Dutchman. “At Liverpool or Barcelona, however, he would be better in his element, with a lot of pressure up front and a lot of possession.”

Who is Joshua Zirkzee

Although Zirkzee has been around the top level of European football for the past few years, many won’t be all that familiar with him.

Having managed four goals in 17 appearances for Bayern, the Netherlands U21 international spent consecutive seasons out on-loan.

After a productive spell at Anderlecht in 2021/22, Zirkzee permanently left the German giants to join Bologna in 2022.

Since then it has been steady progress. Last year wasn’t an especially prolific one for Zirkzee as he scored just twice in 21 games. But this season he has stepped things up and has 11 goals to his name in all competitions.

Tall, skilful and unpredictable, we’d peg Zirkzee as a little bit of a cross between current Reds strikers Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo.

With his progress at Bologna attracted high-profile suitors this summer, you could see why Liverpool may be amongst them. One to keep an eye on.
