'Honestly': Darren Bent makes claim about what Gareth Southgate is doing to Arsenal right now

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has had his say on England manager Gareth Southgate’s treatment of one Arsenal player, and it’s not Ben White.

The 25-year-old defender has been the talk of the town after he refused to be called up to the Three Lions squad earlier this month.

White has been at the end of immense criticism since. Southgate has come under fire for the way he handled the situation in that press conference as well.

Now, Bent is unhappy with another thing Southgate is about to do with one of White’s Arsenal teammates.

Darren Bent sends message to Gareth Southgate about Arsenal star

The international break has mostly gone well for Arsenal.

Ben White‘s decision to stay back is a positive for the Gunners as he will have had a huge break to recharge ahead of the big game against Manchester City on Sunday.

Bukayo Saka was sent back as well because he wasn’t fit, and that, again, is great news for Mikel Arteta’s side as the winger needs all the rest he can get.

Declan Rice, however, is unlikely to get any break. The midfielder played the full game against Brazil last weekend and it has now been revealed that he will captain the side against Belgium.

Darren Bent is happy that Rice has been made the skipper, but he’s far from pleased that the Arsenal man is being asked to play again in a meaningless friendly. He had a go at Southgate for ‘trying to drain the life out of him’.

“I’d like him to have a bit of a breather, the man played 90 minutes against Brazil,” Bent said on talkSPORT.

“Saka has already gone home, Declan – hey, come on Gareth! Everyone needs a breather. Everyone needs a rest, you’ve got to rotate, have a look at other people.

“Honestly, (he’s) trying to drain the life out of him.”

Declan Rice will face his Arsenal teammate

Arsenal, thankfully, have no injury issues to report after the first round of games in this international break, and that is a big boost.

Up next, two Gunners stars will face each other in a friendly.

It has already been confirmed that Declan Rice will be the captain, which means he will start for England. He will take on a Belgium side that’s expected to have Leandro Trossard in their starting lineup.

Both players are integral for Arsenal, so we’re sure Mikel Arteta will be keeping a close eye on the game and hoping the two of them will come out of it unscathed.
