Ivashchenko took over from Oleksandr Lytvynenko, who assumed the role of the new Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).
President Zelenskyy dismissed Oleksiy Danilov from the NSDC position, as outlined in decree No. 186/2024, published on the website of the Presidential Office.
Lytvynenko headed the FIS since July 23, 2021, and before that, from April 4, 2011. From April 4, 2014, until August 13, 2019, he served as the Deputy NSDC.
Lieutenant General Ivashchenko previously served as the First Deputy Chief of the HUR military intelligence service and as the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Ivashchenko received the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, 3rd class, on March 31, 2022.
