Ex-Celtic man gains 'world-class' billing from former Hoops manager Neil Lennon

Celtic are currently on international duty; however, that hasn’t stopped the flow of discussion surrounding matters at the club.

With eight league matches left to go, the Bhoys hold a slender advantage over Rangers in the hunt for the Scottish Premiership title, and they travel to Livingston this weekend keen to continue their positive momentum.

Some of our Bhoys have achieved some notable feats representing their respective countries, not least Alistair Johnston, who helped Canada qualify for the Copa America finals last weekend.

Daizen Maeda played 90 minutes for Japan in their 1-0 victory over North Korea last weekend; meanwhile, Anthony Ralston came off the bench in Scotland’s 4-0 defeat away to the Netherlands.

Former Celtic man Kieran Tierney also featured for the Tartan Army in Amsterdam, though Greg Taylor remained an unused substitute during proceedings.

The trio will all be hopeful of receiving some minutes later tonight when Scotland take on Northern Ireland at Hampden in their latest preparatory friendly ahead of EURO 2024 in Germany.

Former Celtic star Kieran Tierney earns ‘world-class’ billing

Tierney will always be a household name at Celtic due to his exploits in the early part of his career, where he registered eight goals and 37 assists in 170 appearances, claiming eight trophies along the way [Transfermarkt].

Now on the books of La Liga outfit Real Sociedad on loan from Arsenal, the Douglas-born man has designs on ensuring his own place in Steve Clarke’s plans for this summer is safe.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer, former Hoops manager Neil Lennon has signalled his belief that Tierney is among a pool of three ‘world-class’ players present in the Scotland squad.

Lennon stated: “You’ve got a couple of world-class players in the Scotland team, but the majority of this team are playing really well at Premier League level.

“Robertson, for me, is a world-class player. McGinn on his day can be world-class, Tierney on his day can be world-class, Andy (Robertson) has been one of the best left-backs in the world for a long, long time.”

Maybe we’re slightly biased as Celtic fans; however, on his day, there is no doubt Tierney has demonstrated his ability to fit in at the elite level.

Whether that makes him world-class or not is up for debate, thoughinjury issues have played their part in his career trajectory over the last few years, which may weigh against him slightly.

Either way, the Scotland international is someone who will always be welcome back at Parkhead, and some still hold out hope that one day he can return to his boyhood club.
