Far-right US Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee, according to ABC News.

Business Insider senior politics reporter Bryan Metzger shared a screenshot of a statement released by the committee on Tuesday, March 26, writing, "reason [for investigation] unclear."

The statement reads, "The Chairman and Ranking Member of the Committee on Ethics have jointly decided to extend the matter regarding Representative Troy E. Nehls, which was transmitted to the Committee by the Office of Congressional Ethics on December 11, 2023.

It continues, "The Committee notes that the mere fact of a referral or an extension, and the mandatory disclosure of such an extension and the name of the subject of the matter, does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred, or reflect any judgment on behalf of the Committee. The Committee will announce its course of action in this matter on or before Friday, May10, 2024."

Not often in the spotlight, the Texas congressman in January was greatly criticized by his Democratic colleagues after admitting that he would refuse to agree to the bipartisan border package "if it would benefit President Joe Biden politically in any way."

This is a developing story.
