'Don't give up hope' - Luis Diaz's father makes Madrid transfer admission

By Jude Summerfield

Luis Diaz's father has opened the door to a future move to Spain for the Liverpool forward, revealing he hopes his son plays in La Liga one day.

Diaz joined the Reds in the 2022 January transfer window and helped the club to FA Cup and Carabao Cup successes in his first half-season at Anfield, also starting the 1-0 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid that year.

The Colombia international has been linked with a move away from Merseyside, with rumours suggesting Paris Saint-Germain are interested in luring him to Parc des Princes.

His dad, Luis Manuel, however, has hinted the 27-year-old may move to La Liga in the future.

He said: "When he left Porto I was not aware that there was anything positive with Madrid clubs. I heard things, but I never knew if there was anything else. With Liverpool everything was more precise.

"The directive was more precise for Luis to arrive there. It was hoped that he could come here [to Spain]. Radamel Falcao had already been there, James Rodriguez too...in the end it didn't happen, but don't give up hope yet. He is playing and the clubs are active."

Luis Manuel previously revealed his son has dreamed of a move to Barcelona, having supported the Catalan giants since he was a child, though also thanked Liverpool and former club Porto for guiding the winger throughout his senior career so far.

He said: "The truth is that I know very little about Barcelona at the moment. It is true that Luis is a loyal Barcelona fan and it would be his dream to go there. So far I would like to thank Porto and Liverpool for the way they welcomed him and received him.

"Luis is a player who finds it easy to win over because of the way he is, because of his humility, his work, his dedication, he is a very disciplined player, thank God. There would be no problem if Luis came to Barcelona because it is a top team and one of the best in the world."

Diaz's current Liverpool contract still has over three years left to run, having scored 22 goals in 86 appearances for the Reds.
