'I see' - Gary Neville named Man Utd's best player of the season, his pick has responded to incredible praise

Portugal defender Diogo Dalot has shared his two cents after Manchester United legend Gary Neville dropped the ultimate praise on him over his performances.

Diogo Dalot has seen a resurgence in his playing career after the arrival of Erik ten Hag, who is a big fan of the 25-year-old Manchester United full-back.

The Red Devils right-back, who can play at left-back, has climbed the pecking order under United boss Erik ten Hag and earned praise for his performances this season.

Dalot had previously struggled for minutes under Ten Hag’s predecessor at United, with ex-Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferring Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The Portugal international was loaned out to Serie A side AC Milan in the 2020-21 season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before returning to Old Trafford.

But Dalot has seen regular playing time this season and has made 26 Premier League appearances, with the United man scoring once and registering two assists.

What Neville said about Man Utd star Dalot

Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo is among those who have spoken highly about Diogo Dalot, with Rio Ferdinand opening up on what his ex-teammate said.

Dalot first arrived at Old Trafford in 2018 after he was signed from Portuguese side Porto for £19m, with former United manager Jose Mourinho in charge at the time.

Jose Mourinho raved about the Portugal full-back in 2018 and the ‘Special One’ said that Dalot was the “best young full-back in Europe” when he signed for United.

Speaking on the Stick to Football show, Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes that former defender Dalot was United’s best player this season.

“Diogo Dalot has done very well,” he said on The Overlap.

“He’s been Manchester United’s best player this season.”

Dalot responds to Neville’s praise

Dalot has been on international duty with Portugal and the Red Devils player was asked about the flattering praise from United legend Neville.

Speaking to Portuguese newspaper A Bola (via the Manchester Evening News), he said: “I see it as a responsibility.

“It’s always good to hear praise, especially from players who have already played for the club and know what it means to represent a club like Manchester United.

“It’s the result of the work I’m doing and I want to take advantage of this moment to help the national team.

“I know that the demands here are very high and so is the competition.”
