Calls have been made to take action along a town road after several incidents involving buses being unable to pass parked cars.
Downham town councillor Valerie Leivers told the authority’s full meeting last week that she has received two reports of buses trying to drive down Trafalgar Road, but being blocked by vehicles left along the street.
The driver reportedly had to phone the police before taking a detour, forcing them to miss out a number of stops, with nearby residents being asked to move their cars.
Cllr Leivers asked Cllr Tony White, the Norfolk county councillor for Downham, if double yellow lines could be put in place further along Trafalgar Road to stop vehicles from being parked there.
“I think we have got enough yellow lines in Downham,” Cllr White replied.
He also said the matter is a police issue.
Cllr Jacqueline Westrop also spoke on the issue, describing it as “absolute chaos”.
She said there are double yellow lines at the bottom of the road, but when speaking to residents she has been told the issues are becoming more frequent - causing them “stress”.
“It might be worth extending the yellow lines so the buses can actually swing by and get through,” she added.
Cllr Barrie Wiles also told Cllr White about concerns from residents about children having to cross the road at the Memorial Field in order to catch their bus.
They have asked if a zebra crossing could be installed in that vicinity, and Cllr Wiles said that drivers are having to stop as a “courtesy” to let youngsters cross.
Cllr White asked him to put the concerns in an email so he could pass them onto the relevant people.
